Today's Challenges
When you think about your school district's level of performance, and how it operates, do you ever wonder: "is this as good as it gets?" School districts have a responsibility to perform to the level of expectations from the constituents they serve. In short, schools are for children and belong to the communities they serve. School Districts must operate in ways that will effectively insure higher levels of learning, customer satisfaction and resource utilization. For all those who are involved with schools these responsibilities have become increasingly more foreboding in light of the many challenges that beset educational organizations. Among these challenges are:
- Students not meeting academic expectations
- Waning public confidence and support
- Intrusive governmental rules, regulations and legislation
- Diverse student needs and expectations
- Finite resources
- Media reporting angles
- Varying agendas, points of view and expectations of Board members
and their constituents
- Competing agenda, points of view and expectations of Board members, Staff, Union organizations, Parents, Community Members and other Constituent Groups
- Consternation and confusion within the Organization and Community
Clearly, the above is not an exhaustive list. However, the greatest challenge for School Districts is to attain heightened levels of performance year after year. This does not occur serendipitously. Never before has it become more important for School Districts to take the necessary steps in order to fulfill their fiduciary responsibilities in light of existing challenges and expectations.
